Pretty much anything, as far as I'm concerned. If I can make the pink work, I'm working the pink :P
Nothing too out there with this outfit. As I said, I like pink because it's my favorite color, but it's also an easy way to soften and feminize an outfit that might otherwise seem less feminine (not that I have a problem with wearing more boy-ish clothes, but sometimes I want to be all-girl, even when I'm lounging). In the case of an outfit like this, accessories do a lot of the talking. You can't really tell in this picture, but along with the cherry blossom necklace I'm wearing, I have on a matching pair of asymmetrical cherry blossom earrings. One is a stud and the other dangles from a simple hoop.
The pink in the necklace matches my shorts almost perfectly, which gives a nice tie-in with the shirt because it feels book-ended, at least a little. Once again, I'm wearing my pink and purple converse (which are actually sunset print, not galaxy print as stated in a previous post), and while they don't technically match, I'm able to pull on the pinks from the shoes to match the shorts.
Besides, they're comfortable.
About the Look
Like most (all?) of my outfits, this is pieced together from lucky finds. The mock-denim overshirt (which is actually a cotton/spandex stretch material) is tunic-length with a slight peplum waist that I found off the rack at Burlington for $12, while the white undershirt is a hand-me-down from who-knows-where that I've had foreeeeeeeeeeever. I widened the neckline a few years ago so I could add sleeves to things without the white peeking through the collar of my overshirt, and I really like how it comes together here.
The shorts are a Summer 2021 find from Walmart's women's section. They're just the tiniest bit too short, so I had to be really careful how I was sitting here, but I have since popped the seams that keep the bottoms rolled up, and that added a good 2-inches, making them much more comfortable to me. They were $14, which is usually more money than I prefer to spend on clothes at Walmart, but considering they came in pretty much every color - and I was worried they would go quickly and not be replaced in time for autumn mark-downs - I bought them at full price. Since it's so hard to find shorts that cover me the way I prefer, I consider it money well spent.
My necklace and earrings came from Hot Topic and are from the Sakura collection - which I'm pretty sure is influenced by CLAMP's Card Captor Sakura, if not officially licensed - and they're adorable. The downside is they're not real gold, and if I wear the necklace while it's hot, it turns my neck green. I'm looking for a cheap, gold-plated replacement, but so far, no luck. Since Hot Topic was having a buy-one-get-one, I got both the necklace and earrings (which came in a multi-earring set) for $12,
The shoes, as stated in a previous post were $25 from Kohl's, and if you want to know more, I'm pretty sure the full explanation is just one post back.
Now we get to the part of this look that doesn't really jive: the purse. It is very much the wrong shade of blue, but it was the only purse I had at the time that was even remotely close. I have since acquired a cute little pink purse and a bigger white one that looks a bit like an envelope, both of which have already made an appearance on Instagram. In the case of this purse, however, I got it from Kohl's, which is pretty much where I get all of my purses anymore because they always seem to have ridiculous sales (usually around 60% off all their brands). This one is a Rosetti I got for $15 on sale and with a 25% off coupon (thank-you Kohl's Amazon returns!).
